How Does Google Adsense Work?

google_adsense_logo-1How does Google Adsense work? How can I start making money with Google Adsense? Is Google Adsense even worth it?

Google Adsense Overview

Basically, Google Adsense allows you to place ads on your website. These ads aren’t Google’s; Google is just connecting private advertisers with private website owners. Every time someone clicks on an ad on your website, you earn money, and Google takes a commission.

How To Get Started With Google Adsense

First, of course, you need a website. If you have a website, you can then apply to be accepted by their program. As long as you have a decent website with a nice amount of traffic and you don’t have any adult or racial content, you’ll probably be approved. Once you’re approved, you can use Google Adsense on any of your future websites. You can sign up here.

Next, Google gives you a code, which you place on your website. You can block certain categories, and you can choose whether your ads should be pictures or plain text.

Earning Money With Google Adsense

The amount you actually earn per click is not a lot – – usually around 20 cents to a dollar (usually closer to 20 cents). Sometimes you earn less than 20 cents, and sometimes you can earn a couple of dollars, though that’s rare. (Here’s some more info on earning with Google Adsense.)

The Google Adsense minimum payout is $100. Yes, that is right, one hundred bucks. Obviously, most website visitors will not click on your ads, and since you earn so little per click, you’ll need to have A LOT of visitors to earn anything substantial.

You’ll get paid via check or bank transfer once a month for the PREVIOUS month. Meaning, if you earned $150 in January, you’ll get paid by the end of February.

After earning $10, you will be asked to verify your address, through a PIN number that is sent to the address you signed up with. You can still earn money without verifying your address, but you can not get paid. If you’ve been found to be violating their terms of service, such as having a friend click on ads, disclosing the amount per click you earn, or having inappropriate content on your site, your account can be blocked.

Conclusion

If you have a website with a nice amount of traffic, Google Adsense is a great way to earn some extra cash. If not, then you may have to wait a year or more to finally reach $100.

P.S. You can make money on your website via affiliate marketing as well. In fact, this method is much more profitable than Google Adsense.

Hi Ben, I’ve been wondering wether or not adsense is worth it. I realise you would need an awful lot of traffic if you want to see some decent money, so do you use adsense? Is it something you would recommend?

Well, if you have enough traffic, go for it. If not, you might want to first try it out to see if you’re making anything reasonable, and if not, perhaps try another alternative, which has a smaller minimum payout, such as $10. Google “Google Adsense alternative”. hope this helps 🙂
