Is it possible to make money as an Amazon affiliate, advertising and reviewing Amazon products?
It sure is! However, as with all things, it requires hard work, effort, and experience.
How Making Money As An Amazon Affiliate Works
Amazon has a program, called Amazon Associates. For every sale you bring to Amazon, you earn a small commission, usually 4-10%. Most products give you a 6% commission, but before you advertise at least seven products, the commission is 4%.
Amazon prefers to refer to these commissions as “advertising fees”.
Now, 6% doesn’t sound like a lot. However, it all really depends on the price of the product you’re advertising, as well as how many sales you can make. 6% of a $500 item results in a $30 commission for you. And even if you’re promoting something that’s just $25, for example, you still get a $1.50 commission. If you get 50 sales a day, that’s an extra $75 of daily passive income.
So… How Do I Go About Starting Out?
Well, the most common way to do this is by promoting Amazon’s products on your website, if you have one.
Affiliate marketing can be quite confusing to some, but here’s a simple breakdown:
- Have a website.
- Write out content on your website, in the form of reviews and information on Amazon products.
- Attract more visitors to your website by targeting search terms people are typing into Google, for example, “Product X Review.”
- Promote good products, and provide your link to the product on Amazon.com which has your traffic ID embedded.
- Earn a commission and make $$$!!!
Hmm…Sounds Simple…What’s The Catch?
The catch is that this doesn’t happen 1-2-3, and not overnight, either. In order to earn a consistent income by promoting Amazon products, you have to have a considerable amount of visitors to your site (not all visitors will end up making a purchase).
In order to have a considerable amount of visitors, you must write out a whole bunch of content, reviews, and posts.
Doing this takes a considerable amount of time and effort.
There are other things that are important in order for an Amazon affiliate site to be successful. This includes, but is not limited to, keyword research, relevant images, and some basic knowledge of affiliate marketing.

Other Ways To Promote Amazon
You can also place simple ads on any of your own or someone else’s website, in the form of banners or pictures linked with your affiliate ID.
Some Things To Consider
Amazon’s affiliate program is actually on the lower end of the spectrum, together with places such as Walmart’s affiliate program, which is also 5%.
Amazon also takes up to 2-3 months to actually pay its associates for sales they make.
However, there are many affiliate programs which pay much more, with many paying 30% commissions and even higher, and some will pay even 50+% commissions.
Some of these include Ebay.com, Clickbank, ShareASale, Commission Junction etc. as well as many private companies who have their own affiliate program.
Most affiliate programs also take less time to pay, sometimes less than a month, sometimes 1-2 months, and some even pay weekly (though that’s rare).
Also, once you have a well-visited website, there are other ways to monetize your website, such as Google Adsense.
Wealthy Affiliate has all you need to become a successful affiliate marketer, and you can start off with the free membership, which includes 2 free websites.
