Skillshare vs Udemy — This Skillshare Review Compares These Popular Learning Platforms

skillshare vs udemy reviewIs Skillshare a good online learning platform? How does Skillshare compare to Udemy? And is Skillshare legit? This Skillshare review reveals it all!

What Is Skillshare and Why Should You Create an Account?

Skillshare is an online learning platform. It has over 14,000 courses on any topic under the sun. These days, more and more people are opting to take online classes rather than read a book or attend a physical class. Online video classes help you understand a subject much better than a book would, and the cost of any online class is way cheaper than attending a physical class.

Skillshare is free to join. However, the free version is very limited and only has a small number of classes available. The premium version, however, costs just $8 a month and gives you unlimited access to all of Skillshare’s thousands of classes (it’s $12 a month if you want to pay monthly and $8 a month if you pay yearly). In addition, you can get the unlimited premium version for 30 days FREE.

You can also take your courses on the go with the Skillshare Android and iPhone apps. You can even download courses and watch them offline.

What Types of Classes Does Skillshare Have?

What types of classes does Skillshare have? And how many courses does it have for each topic? I entered a few popular topics in the search bar, and here are the number of results for each topic:

  • Business: 9,660 classesskillshare review
  • Technology: 7,286 classes
  • Marketing: 2,618 classes
  • Writing: 1,838 classes
  • Music: 1,576 classes
  • Web Design: 1,207 classes
  • Blogging: 569 classes
  • WordPress: 605 classes
  • Cooking: 394 classes
  • Sewing: 216 classes
  • German: 39 classes

I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. I think there are enough courses on really any topic you need, all for just $8 a month. Personally, I think it’s worth it — people pay $8 a month to be able to watch movies on Netflix that don’t develop your brain or help you learn a new skill. At Skillshare, you will be learning new skills and become smarter.

Skillshare vs Udemy — Which One Is Better?

Now for the big question: Is Skillshare better than Udemy or the other way around?

Now, let me be very clear about this. Udemy definitely has a much larger database of courses. It’s larger than Skillshare by a few times over. However, with Udemy, you have to pay for each course independently.

Udemy doesn’t have any monthly payment plans. If you want a course, you have to purchase it. Many Udemy courses cost around $200 each!

Think about it: If you want to complete a new course each week, then you can end up paying $800+ a month! Compare that to Skillshare’s $8 a month, and you see how big the difference is.

So yes, Udemy does have a lot more courses, and if you do some searching, you can probably find better courses at Udemy. However, the pricing at Udemy is just way too much for me. I enjoy learning as much as I can in my free time, and I just can’t afford to buy new Udemy courses all the time. That’s why I signed up for a Skillshare account.skillshare vs udemy

Besides, more and more teachers are moving over to Skillshare. There are a number of reasons for this, such as how Udemy often creates massive discounts which the teachers have no control over. I’ve actually noticed teachers who have classes on BOTH Udemy and Skillshare.

Are SkillShare Classes Any Good?

I’ve enrolled in quite a few Skillshare courses, and they’re pretty good. The good part about Skillshare is that if you don’t like one class, all you have to do is enroll in a new class. You have unlimited access, so there’s no problem doing that. With Udemy, however, you have to pay for each course independently. The best you can do at Udemy is ask for a refund in the 30-day money back period.

So, Is Skillshare Worth It? Can It Really Be True?

Skillshare is definitely worth it, and it is a great alternative to Udemy. For just $8 a month, you get access to thousands of courses on any topic. If you want to learn about internet marketing, you can do it here. If you want to learn guitar, you can do it here. If you want to learn sewing, you can do it here. If you want to learn a language, you can do it here. I highly recommend that you create your free 30-day premium Skillshare account.

Great review comparison. I agree with you on the cost of Netflix as opposed to the cost of Skillshares and how it is better to learn for that investment. For $8 a month that is an incredible price. Thanks for pointing out this great alternative to Udemy. Do they both have affiliate programs?
    Peace, Peter

      Hey Peter,

Yes, it definitely is a GREAT investment, and I am enjoying the time I take each day to learn new stuff!

Yes, Udemy has an affiliate program through Linkshare, and Skillshare’s affiliate program is through Impact Radius.

      Thanks for stopping by!
